Toshi H. Arimura is Professor of Economics at Waseda University in Tokyo. Before joining Waseda University, he was Professor at Sophia University. He has also held visiting positions at George Mason University and Resources for the Future in the United States as an Abe Fellow, as well as at the Paris School of Economics and Sciences Po in France.
His research focuses on climate change policy, energy policy, carbon pricing, and air pollution regulation. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, and Energy Policy. He is a co-editor of Carbon Pricing in Japan (Springer), which received the Commentary Award from the Society for Environmental Economics and Policy Studies (SEEPS), the Japanese association for environmental and resource economics.
Professor Arimura holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota, an M.S. from the University of Tsukuba, and a B.A. in the History of Science from the University of Tokyo.
He currently serves as Vice President of the Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (AAERE). He has also served on numerous Japanese government committees on environmental and climate policy. In particular, he has served on carbon pricing committees under the Ministry of the Environment and chaired the carbon credit committee under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. He has also served on the editorial boards of academic journals, including Review of Environmental Economics and Policy and Environmental Economics and Policy Studies.
Professor Arimura has received Outstanding Publication Awards from SEEPS and the Society of Environmental Science, Japan. He is also a recipient of the Ichimura Prize in Science for Excellent Achievement in Global Warming Prevention.
